Rest Days

I've decided that I'm not going to post on scheduled Rest Days unless there is something new or interesting to say.

So there!

Sunday

Slept in this morning. I also ate breakfast before I ran - something I have never done before.

I was still a bit tired from yesterday's run, so I cut this one short by about 1/2 a mile.

I started the run at 9:28 AM and burned 748 calories.

Today's stats:
Ran: 3.89 miles
Weight: 250 pounds

Thurs, Fri, and Sat

Really quick - Thursday was another bad allergy morning - so I skipped.

Friday is a scheduled rest day.

Saturday, I had to be at my ALR meeting by 8, so I got up early and stopped a little shy of my 7 mile goal.

I started the run at 6:10 AM and burned 1334 calories.

Ran: 6.78 miles

What would you do?

I run pretty much the same path every morning...at least the first mile and a half is exactly the same. I start my runs at the same time every morning (give or take 10 minutes). That time is around 6:00 AM - it's still dark outside when I start.

I've been running this same route at the same time 5 days a week for the past 4 months.

This morning, I start my run and withing the first 100 yards, I realize there is a runner about 250 yards ahead of me running the same direction. Remember, it's still dark, so all I can see it the vague shape of a person.

I'm going slightly faster than this other runner, and when I'm about 50 yards behind this runner, I realize that the runner is a female.

A few things go through my head - one, I'm going to eventually catch up and pass her (unless she goes off in a different direction), two - since she's running the same direction as me, I'm coming up behind her so she probably is unaware that I'm behind her, three - I don't want to startle her, three - I'm going faster, but not that much faster.

Remember, I see her at the begining of my run. I finally catch up to her at the 1 mile mark. So although I'm going faster, it's not that much faster.

What I ended up doing is saying "Passing on your right" when I was about 20 feet behind her. I sped up a little (which I didn't want to do) so I could pass her. (If I didn't speed up, we would have run next to each other for a few minutes)

At the next intersection, I ran a small cul-de-sac that she didn't, so two minutes later, I was behind her again.

About 200 yards later, she turned right and I turned left. I didn't see her again during my run.

But my questions is...what should I do if this happens again? I don't want to scare her and make her think some psycho is chasing her down while she's out running in the dark. I don't want to startle her by simply popping up beside her during her run. And I certainly don't want to get pepper sprayed on accident. (I don't know if she had pepper spray, but it's always a possibility)

But, I don't want to change my path or my speed simply so someone else won't feel uncomfortable.

Ladies, what would YOU want me to do if you were that female running in front of me?

And to the guys - what would you have done in my shoes?

I started the run at 6:09 AM and burned 833 calories.

Back into the swing of things

Now that my back-to-back race weeks are over, I'm trying to get back into my normal routine. But when the alarm went off at 5:40 this morning, I really didn't want to get out of bed.

Since I ran for speed on Sunday, I decided to run a bit slower today and kept it at around a 10 minute mile pace.

I started the run at 6:06 AM and burned 839 calories.

Today's stats:
Ran: 4.32 miles
Weight: 249 pounds

Monday

With the Cowboy's Win and the Texas Chainsaw Repairmen win yesterday, I'm not doing nuthin' today!

Actually, it's a scheduled rest day.

Last week, I ran less than 8 total miles....very bad!

Hopefully, I can make it up this week. We'll see.

Ran: 0 miles

Rock-N-Relay

The Rock-N-Relay was today, and The Texas Chainsaw Repairmen got to run!

First - our transport van was decorated with a life-sized Leatherface sitting on the top, blood oozing down the windows and big magnetic signs that sported the best of the slogans people suggested on Plime and Worth. Things like "Keep Screamin', We're Comin'!", "Honk If You're Homicidal", "Looking for Scantily Clad Coeds? We can Help!", "Organ and Blood Donors Inquire Within", "Because a dull chain just leaves a bigger mess", "If it doesn't require a chainsaw, you haven't tried hard enough", and a few more.

The race started with me running the first leg - 3.78 miles. I finished in a personal best time of 34 minutes....that's a pace of 9:07 per mile.

Second was Jason who ran 6.7 miles in approximately 52 minutes.

Next was Tom who ran 3.78 miles in 33 minutes.

The fourth leg was run by Eric, 3.8 miles in 30 minutes.

The final let was Wes who ran 2.94 miles in under 25 minutes.

Our total team time was 21 miles in slightly under 1 hour and 55 minutes.

The official times will be posted on the website soon....but (drum roll, please...)

WE GOT FIRST PLACE!!! No, not overall, but we got first place in our age division (30 to 39 Male). I've never gotten first place in a race before. I'm so stoked!!!

As soon as pictures come available, I'll share. As soon as the official times are posted, I'll link to that, too. (It will only give the overall team time, not individuals)

Anyway... I just wanted to brag a little about the AWESOME Texas Chainsaw Repairmen!!!!

I started the run at 7:59 AM and burned 716 calories.

Today's stats:
Ran: 3.76 miles
Weight: 249 pounds
